A liveable environment also includes the preservation of this environment. This requires daily efforts from all people living and working on the Finca. In this context, information and educational work is especially necessary. This begins with the use of natural and reusable packaging materials, a vivid interest in a clean and waste-free environment and waste avoidance. Raising awareness for an environmentally friendly and sustainable way of life is an important concern in living and working at TLAN MAKAN. This also includes the collection and separation of waste, which has not been practiced very often so far.

The use of the available natural resources is another important aspect of environmental protection on TLAN MAKAN. In addition to the supply of the wild growing fruits, the so-called dead wood gets a new meaning and subsequent use. For the local population the dead wood is of great interest, because it can be used as firewood. This avoids that living trees are felled to produce firewood and by collecting the wood the forestry areas are kept clean. The use and simultaneous conservation of natural resources is possible through the sustainable combination of coffee cultivation and forestry, proving that economic added value combined with environmental protection is possible.
